Admission Requirements

Our admissions requirements vary by school and department. Below are the basic requirements for admission into the National Diploma (ND) Programme.

Basic Admission Requirements

  • SSCE/NECO/NABTEB/GCE O'Level: Credit level passes in five (5) subjects relevant to the programme obtained at no more than two (2) sittings.
  • NTC/NBC: The National Technical Certificate (NTC) or National Business Certificate (NBC) with pass in a trade plus four (4) relevant academic subjects.
  • UTME Examination: A satisfactory score in the UTME examination, which is conducted annually by JAMB.
  • Preliminary ND Programme: Five credits in relevant subjects obtained at the final examination of the NBTE recognized preliminary ND programme offered in a polytechnic or similar Post-Secondary Technical Institution.

Science & Technology Programmes

All candidates applying for science and technology programmes must possess credit level passes in Mathematics and English Language (Not Literature in English).

Business & Management Programmes

Applicants for Business and Management Programmes require credit passes in English Language and Mathematics plus three other relevant subjects.

Pre-Science & Technology

A pass in the final examination of the pre-science and technology programme of the polytechnic is acceptable for technology programmes.

Important Note: Consult departments in case of specific department entry requirements. Some programmes may have additional subject requirements.

UTME Requirements

  • Candidates must choose Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba as their first choice institution.
  • A minimum UTME score of 120 is required for consideration (subject to change based on national guidelines).
  • Candidates must participate in the Post-UTME screening exercise conducted by the polytechnic.
  • Relevant UTME subject combinations apply per department.
